Puffin Models is a full time model company that was formed in 2002 to spread the word about successful electric flight, and also to introduce quality Czech electric flight products to the UK modeller. By successfully introducing the now popular Model Motors AXi brushless outrunner range along with RCM-Pelikan kits to the UK modeller we have been able to expand the range of motors, controllers, kits, and accessories that we hold on stock to include a number of ranges produced in the Czech Republic and other quality items produced in Germany. Our aim is to only sell what we are happy to use ourselves, and to hold stock of items for immediate delivery whenever possible. We aim to provide the best possible prices and service for the products that we sell, and of course we know how to make the best use of these items. We will never knowingly sell you an item that is unsuitable for your application.

John Emms, owner of Puffin Models

John Emms

Completed 22 years as a Royal Air Force technician, and taught Design and Technology in inner-city Bristol before forming Puffin Models. His background has given him extensive technological training and experience (including a BA in Design and Technology education), along with studying business management to HNC level.

John has been flying a variety of radio controlled model aeroplanes since 1974 - the first being a Kamco Kadet with OS Cougar radio.

John has also been involved in electric powered models since 1984 (Robbe Geier flying wing), passed his BMFA B certificate in 1987, and achieves a great deal of satisfaction out of testing new models and power systems.

John is a BMFA registered instructor and is ultimately responsible for purchasing at Puffin, provides technical support, and is in regular contact with model manufacturers.

Sandra Emms of Puffin Models

Sandra Emms

Worked with a church mission in Central and North America before moving to Houston, Texas where she spent 15 years handling the accounts for a major Houston law firm. Sandra’s move to UK saw her working for a large firm of solicitors in Bristol before moving on to manage the accounts and administration for Puffin Models.

Amy

Amy has primary responsibility for packing your orders which MUST go out same day, and must be packed to make sure that they arrive safely.

When you phone, you might speak to John, Sandra or Amy. Sandra and Amy know the products that you are talking about. John is always available to give technical advice. All we ask in return is that you buy from us which then allows us to carry on giving the advice and support that we have always provided.

Puffin testing and display pilots

Bob Partington

Bob has extensive experience in the aerospace industry, and is one of the UK’s leading EDF flyers. Bob does most of the EDF development work for Puffin, and as a result of his scale modelling and pattern flying background is a fantastic demonstration pilot with his nicely detailed scale models. Bob is an Area Chief Examiner for the BMFA.

Bob Blackmore

Bob is a well known character in the South West for his love of model flying and the huge number of highly successful own design models that he produces including the Concorde that is a regular feature at the Woodspring Wings show. Bob says that he will fly anything (he first flew with reed radio), and puts on some entertaining displays including inverted low passes with trainers! Bob is a club examiner for the BMFA.

Chris Martindale

Chris has been flying for ever (like most of us). Chris likes to fly sports aerobatic and scale models, and has a number of highly successful designs included in the Ttraplet plans range. Chris has become one of the UK’s authorities on electric power systems for this type of model. Chris is a quantity surveyor who spends all of his free time thinking about, building, or flying electric powered model aeroplanes. Chris is a club examiner for the BMFA.

Craig Martindale

Craig has been flying for a little shorter time than Dad Chris, but is equally enthusiastic! Craig passed his B certificate in 2004.
